Super Falcons Star Okoronkwo Accuses Morocco Hotel Staff Of Stealing Players’ Cash

Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has accused cleaning staff at the hotel where Nigeria’s women’s national team camped in Casablanca, Morocco, of stealing cash from players’ rooms.

Okoronkwo made the allegation in a series of posts on Snapchat, claiming that money belonging to several players went missing while they were away from their rooms and hotel cleaners were inside to tidy up.

The Super Falcons were staying at a hotel in Casablanca as part of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations before their scheduled move to Rabat, where they will play their Group C matches.

“The cleaning people stole the money. So they waited while we weren’t in the room to clean and steal the money,” Okoronkwo wrote in one of the posts.

The forward also urged her teammates and followers to “write bad reviews” about the hotel.

Okoronkwo initially claimed that $500 had been stolen from her belongings but later corrected the amount after reviewing her calculations.

“Guys I did my calculations wrong; they actually stole 700, not 500 USD,” she wrote alongside a photograph of some of her teammates.

She also alleged that several other members of the squad had money stolen from their rooms.

According to her posts, teammate Halimatu Ayinde, whom she referred to as Hali, allegedly lost $100, while Asisat Oshoala, identified as Osi, also lost $100.

Another player, Joy Omewa, was said to have lost £120, while an unspecified amount was allegedly taken from another teammate.

Okoronkwo said the players confronted hotel staff after discovering the missing cash but were unable to get satisfactory answers.

“We started talking to them, and they don’t have answers. They also started being disrespectful,” she wrote.

She further alleged that the hotel’s front desk staff showed little concern after she reported the incident, claiming that neither of the staff members appeared troubled by the complaint.

The Super Falcons forward subsequently warned prospective guests about her experience at the hotel, describing it as poor and alleging that members of staff steal from guests.

The allegations came as Nigeria intensified preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Deborah Abiodun and Gift Monday had completed the Super Falcons’ squad at their Marriott hotel camp in Casablanca, with head coach Justine Madugu working with the full 25-player squad ahead of the tournament.

Nigeria, the defending champions and 10-time winners of the competition, are seeking to retain their continental title in Morocco, with World Cup qualification and a record $2m first prize among the major incentives at stake.

As of the time of filing this report, the hotel management or the Nigeria Football Federation are yet to comment on Okoronkwo’s allegations.
