The protracted leadership tussle in the Action Alliance (AA) may be nearing a definitive end, as the Supreme Court has fixed November 16, 2026, to hear an application by Mr Adekunle Rufai Omoaje to withdraw his appeal challenging the authentic leadership of the party.
The apex court is expected to dismiss the appeal following its withdrawal by the appellant.
The notice of appeal, dated September 28, 2026, was filed by Omoaje through his counsel, Dr Ahmed Raji, SAN.
It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal, in its judgment, affirmed Chief Kenneth Udeze as the National Chairman of the Action Alliance.
Dissatisfied with the judgment, Omoaje proceeded to the Supreme Court to challenge the decision. He has now, however, sought to withdraw the appeal, with the application scheduled to be heard on November 16, 2026.
In a statement, the party said the development marked the end of the road for what it described as leadership distractions within its ranks.
The statement, issued by the party’s Media Directorate, described the withdrawal of the appeal as a dead end for those it accused of fuelling the leadership crisis.
The party also accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of continuing to act in a manner it considered partisan and in disobedience to the valid judgment of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed Udeze as the party’s National Chairman.
“For years, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has continued to act in a manner that is perceived as partisan and in disobedience to the valid judgment of the Court of Appeal which affirmed Chief Udeze,” the statement said.
The party expressed the expectation that the anticipated dismissal of the appeal by the Supreme Court would leave INEC with no option but to comply fully with the Court of Appeal judgment and recognise the leadership headed by Udeze as the only lawful leadership of the Action Alliance.
“With the impending Supreme Court dismissal, INEC will have no other option than to fully comply with the judgment of the Court of Appeal and give full recognition to the Chief Kenneth Udeze-led leadership as the only lawful leadership of the Action Alliance,” the statement said.
