The Nasarawa State Government has sent a bill to the State House of Assembly seeking to amend the local government law in tandem with the autonomy granted the third tier of government by the Supreme Court.

The document was titled, “A Bill for a Law to Repeal and Re-enact the Establishment, Structure, Composition, Finance and Function of Local Government System in Nasarawa State, 2024 and Other Matters Connected Thereto”.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau said the bill was a step toward restructuring of the local government system to conform with the ruling of the Supreme Court which granted financial autonomy to the local government.

Jatau stated this after the House Leader, Hon. Suleiman Azara read the title of the bill for the first reading which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Luka Zhekaba.

Addressing journalists shortly after the day’s sitting, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon. Jonah Dizaho said the state government planned to restructure the local government laws in conformity with the realities on the ground.
