The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered and sealed a suspected illegal wine factory in Badagry, where officers reportedly found adulterated alcoholic drinks, empty bottles and wine labels.
The operation took place in the Yafin area of Badagry following information provided by members of the public.
Police arrested a 48-year-old man, identified as Anaebo Emeka Hilary, at the location, which the command said was being used to produce and package suspected adulterated alcoholic beverages.
Among the items recovered were bottles of suspected adulterated drinks, empty bottles, assorted wine labels and various utensils believed to have been used in the production process.
The police said the facility was subsequently sealed, while the suspect was taken into custody and the recovered materials retained as investigations continue.
Police Warn Against Fake Alcohol
The discovery comes days after the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps reported uncovering a suspected fake fruit juice factory in Aradagun, also in the Badagry area of Lagos.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, commended the officers involved in the operation and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could help expose criminal activities.
The command said it would continue intelligence-led operations against activities that pose a risk to residents across the state.
For consumers, the discovery highlights the need to exercise caution when purchasing alcoholic drinks and to pay attention to packaging, labelling and the source of products.
