Suspected armed robbers on Monday night invaded the priest’s house at the Saint Barnabas Cathedral Anglican Communion, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin, Kwara State and carted away items worth millions of naira.
Sources told LEADERSHIP that the robbery incident took place at about 2:30am and was carried out by a two-man robbery gang.
The sources added that the suspected armed robbers forcefully pulled down the main gate of the two-storey house building and later broke two doors before gaining entrance into the main house.
Confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP in Ilorin, on Tuesday, Rev. Isaiah Afolayan said that the hoodlums, armed with sharp objects, broke into his apartment, located on the last floor of the two-storey building and threatened to kill his family members if they refused to cooperate with them.
He said that his laptop system; fairly used MacBook Pro, worth N1.3 million, a television set and a phone were stolen by the men of the underworld.
Narrating the ordeal of his family in the hands of the night marauders, the cleric said: “We were sleeping when we suddenly we saw him (one of the armed robbers) standing in our room with a sharp object in his hand. He threatened to kill us if we made any noise and asked us to face down.
“With what we have seen so far there are more than one but only one came into our bedroom with a sharp object in his hand threatening to kill us.
“He sighted the MacBook laptop and was able to grab it and ran out and I followed but he hit me with the door gate to escape. As he ran out of the apartment, he fell along the way. This morning (Tuesday) we were able to get a necklace where he fell and the case has been reported to the police”.
