An unidentified man was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalise and steal transformer cables at No.3 Onogoro Street, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Residents of the area were attracted to the scene of the incident following the stench from his corpse lying inside the transformer fence.

A resident of the area who spoke to LEADERSHIP Sunday said the stench had scared residents away as shop owners and other residents had abandoned the area.

She added the incident had already attracted the attention of officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company and the police but the corpse was yet to be removed as at yesterday, three days after it was found.

She appealed to the state government and the security agencies to evacuate the corpse.

Police spokesman DSP Joshua Ukandu said efforts were ongoing to evacuate the corpse.
