Swani Buba Emerges ZLP Consensus Candidate For FCT Senatorial Seat

The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has adopted Hon. Swani Buba as its consensus candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial election.

The ZLP conducted its primary election to select its Senate candidate for the 2027 elections in the FCT on May 26, 2026.

The electoral panel chairman, Nwosu Eugene, announced Swani Buba, the sole aspirant, as the winner by consensus. INEC subsequently presented the certificate of return to the candidate.

The party leadership noted that the choice of Buba was a product of extensive consultation, driven by his deep roots in the FCT and his proven commitment to grassroots development.

With nearly four decades of residency in the FCT, Buba has cultivated a reputation as a grassroots mobiliser focused on local issues, the party added.

The candidate has frequently highlighted the decline in the territory’s educational standards, lamenting the neglect of public primary and secondary schools.

Buba, who was also the party’s chairmanship candidate for AMAC in the last FCT Area Council elections, promised quality representation for FCT residents in the upper chamber of the National Assembly if voted into office.

“It’s disheartening to see these same schools deteriorate under successive governments,” he said earlier in his political career.

The ZLP hopes that his long-term presence in the FCT, combined with rising dissatisfaction with the ruling party’s governance, will translate into electoral success in the senatorial contest.

The party’s ambition to secure the FCT Senate seat is part of a wider strategy. ZLP leaders have vowed to capitalise on what they described as the “perceived governance failures” of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to galvanise voters ahead of the polls.

As the 2027 general election approaches, the ZLP has expressed confidence that its consensus candidate can mount a formidable challenge and bring a fresh perspective to the FCT’s representation in the National Assembly.
