Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has condoled with the people of Duma village in Tureta local government area of the state over the recent attack by bandits in the area.
More than 20 persons were killed by bandits in an attack on Duma village last Wednesday.
Residents said yesterday that many bandits on motorcycles with sophisticated weapons operated unchallenged, terrorising locals and rustling livestock for several hours.
A source who hinted our correspondent on the attack under condition of anonymity said; “Over 20 of the victims died attempting to escape through a river. They got drowned in the process because of their inability to swim. Many cows were rustled and some youths from the community were forced to lead the livestock out of the town.
“Some of the youths the bandits forced to lead the livestock are still with the terrorists and they are making demand of petrol in large quantity before they are released.
“Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, led a team of security personnel and other government functionaries on a condolence visit to the village.
“The governor observed the juma’at prayers where special prayers was held for the repose of the souls of the victims.”
Tureta is one the local government areas in Sokoto that have come under series of attacks with a number of travelers abducted and some killed.
Accompanied by security chiefs in the state, Governor Tambuwal extended his heartfelt sympathies to the community and relatives of the victims.
He said he was there on behalf of the government and people of the state to commiserate with them over the incident which left about 28 people dead.
While praying to Allah to forgive the deceased and grant them Jannatul Firdausi, Tambuwal assured people of the area that government and security agencies were doing their best to ensure that peace is reinforced in the entire state. The governor directed the immediate release of relief materials to IDPs in the area.
