Residents said yesterday that many bandits on motorcycles with sophisticated weapons operated unchallenged, terrorising locals and rustling livestock for several hours.

A source who hinted our correspondent on the attack under condition of anonymity said; “Over 20 of the victims died attempting to escape through a river. They got drowned in the process because of their inability to swim.  Many cows were rustled and some youths from the community were forced to lead the livestock out of the town.

“Some of the youths the bandits forced to lead the livestock are still with the terrorists and they are making demand of petrol in large quantity before they are released.

“Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, led a team of security personnel and other government functionaries on a condolence visit to the village.

“The governor observed the juma’at  prayers where special prayers was held for the repose of the souls of the victims.”
