The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed allegations that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, demolished a mosque during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, insisting that the claims are false and unsupported by available evidence.

Tanko said records from Obi’s time in office show that the former Anambra governor maintained cordial relations with the Muslim community and supported the construction of a mosque in the state.

In a post shared on X, the Obidient Movement leader said the group would continue to challenge what it described as misinformation and deliberate attempts to misrepresent Obi’s record in public office.

“We will continue to debunk the false allegations against His Excellency, Peter Obi,” Tanko wrote.

“From the claim that he demolished a mosque, when evidence shows that he supported and built one, to the misinformation surrounding the ID card issue, we will continue to present the facts.”

He maintained that the movement would not remain silent in the face of claims it believes are aimed at damaging Obi’s image ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to him, the Obidient Movement remains committed to presenting factual information and correcting narratives it considers misleading.

“As we have always done, we will challenge falsehoods and expose every malicious attempt to tarnish his integrity and reputation,” he stated.

“Truth remains constant, and no amount of propaganda can change it. A New Nigeria is Possible, and Nigeria will be OK.”

Tanko’s remarks come amid renewed arguments on social media over Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, with supporters and critics trading claims over decisions taken during his administration.

The allegation that Obi demolished a mosque has resurfaced repeatedly in political discussions online, although his supporters insist that historical records and engagements with the Muslim community contradict the claim.

The latest intervention by Tanko underscores the growing political exchanges surrounding Obi as preparations and alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
