The Taraba State Government has procured additional agricultural and heavy-duty equipment aimed at boosting food production, strengthening mechanised farming, and improving rural infrastructure across the state.
The equipment was acquired under the Taraba State Accelerated Agriculture and Rural Development Scheme (TAARDS), as part of efforts to expand food production and enhance agricultural productivity.
The newly – procured items include eight bulldozers, five excavators, 30 tractors, 30 combined harvesters, 40 boom sprayers, five 30-tonne tippers, and two payloaders.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Barrister Zainab Usman Jalingo, the state government said the equipment would be deployed for land clearing, cultivation, harvesting, irrigation support, road construction, and other agricultural and infrastructure-related activities across the state.
According to the statement, the procurement aligns with Governor Agbu Kefas’ agricultural transformation agenda aimed at increasing food production, improving rural access, and promoting large-scale farming operations.
It noted that the tractors and combined harvesters would enhance mechanised farming and improve productivity, while the boom sprayers would support modern crop management practices to boost yields.
The statement added that bulldozers, excavators, tippers, and payloaders would be used to open rural access roads and improve agricultural corridors to farmlands.
The government said the latest acquisition reflects its commitment to making agriculture a key driver of economic growth, food security, and job creation in the state.
It further stated that since the introduction of the TAARDS initiative, the administration has continued to invest in modern agricultural systems and rural development programmes to improve the livelihoods of farmers and rural communities.
