The Taraba state government has constituted a 23-member Joint Technical Committee to harness the state’s potential for the development of the sugar industry.
A press statement by the chief press secretary to the state governor, Yusuf Sanda, named Jethro Yakubu Zikyengyu as the chairman of the committee while Abel Joachim of the Ministry of Agriculture is to serve as secretary.
Other members of the committee include: representatives from government agencies, the private sector, farmers’ associations, community leaders, and traditional rulers.
“The state governor, Dr Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has approved establishment of a 23-member Joint Technical Committee to enhance sugar development in the state.
“The committee’s term of reference includes, among other objectives, the facilitation and promotion of sugar industry, engaging stakeholders in the relevant areas, developing a comprehensive sugar development plan in the state, identifying suitable locations for sugar processing plant, and mobilising funding, equipment and expertise for sugar development in the state,” he said.
According to the statement, the activities of the committee will be coordinated by the chief of staff to the governor, Dr Jeji Williams.
The committee has three months to submit its report and recommendations to the state government.
