Two executive bills seeking to empower Taraba State youths with vocational skills and engage them in sporting activities have been signed into law by Governor Agbu Kefas.
The bills are for the law No. 11, 2025, establishing the Taraba State Youth Development Agency and the Taraba State Sports Commission Law No. 10, 2025.
The law establishing youth development agency is passed to create a structured platform for tackling the challenges of youths in Taraba State.
The law also provides legal backing for the implementation of youth-focused initiatives that promote employment, skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.
The law establishing the Taraba State Sports Commission aims to regulate sporting activities within the state for optimal benefits and to increase the physical, mental, social, and economic development of the youth.
Speaking after assenting the laws, Governor Agbu Kefas commended members of the State House of Assembly for accelerating the bills’ passage.
He also thanked the state lawmakers for their continuous proactiveness, cooperation, and commitment to the state’s progress.
Therefore, he stressed the need for the members to discharge their legislative duties, saying that partnership between the two arms is crucial for growth and development.
The speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, John Kisito Bonzena, highlighted the significance of the new agency, noting that sports and youth development are critical tools for promoting unity, integration, and positive engagement of young people.
