Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has declared a state of emergency on infrastructural development and human services.
In a press statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Gebon Timothy Kataps, and made available to LEADERSHIP Weekend in Jalingo, announced the constitution of a 13-man Implementation Committee to realise the state’s goals.
According to the statement, the committee will oversee and coordinate emergency measures to address the infrastructural and human-services challenges confronting the state.
It stated that Taraba is faced with significant challenges that threaten the health, safety, and welfare of citizens, requiring urgent action to safeguard both the people and the state’s infrastructure.
The committee, which has an initial 24-month mandate, is chaired by Danladi Baido Tijos, with members drawn from the state executive council and heads of departments. The director-general, Bureau of Public Procurement, will serve as the committee’s secretary.
Members include the attorney-general and commissioner for Justice, and commissioners for health, finance, budget and economic planning, water resources, agriculture and food security, energy and economic development, environment and climate change, works and infrastructure, the state planning commission, and the state auditor-general.
Similarly, Governor Kefas approved the creation of new ministries and the redesignation of others as part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving service delivery, social welfare, and the education sector.
According a press release from the Secretary to the state government, two new ministries were created to strengthen the state’s education architecture,which were ministry of nursery and basic education, and ministry of secondary, vocational and skill education
The ministry of cooperatives and poverty alleviation has also been replaced with the ministry of social development and human services, while the former ministry of social justice and re-integration has been redesignated as the ministry of social justice, reflecting a renewed focus on fairness, legal protections, and support for vulnerable groups.
