Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development yesterday reunited eight trafficked children who were deceitfully taken to the South eastern states of Nigeria, with their parents.
The commissioner, Hon. Mary Sinjen, while briefing journalists in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), said the rescued children were from Minda village in Lau local government area of the state.
She said the children were deceitfully taken from their community and trafficked to Aba, Onitsha and Imo, with claims that they were orphans.
The commissioner said due to investigation, the traffickers were intercepted in Gembu, Sardauna local government area during their illicit operation.
The Commandant of NAPTIP Taraba State, Mr. Emos Gembo during the press briefing said the principal suspect in the trafficking, Patience, revealed to his team that the children were obtained with money ranging from N50,000 to N80,000 depending on the age.
