A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Taraba State, Hon. Danjuma Usman Shiddi, has said the state urgently needs a new generation of leaders who will pilot its affairs with courage, fairness and integrity. The aspirant, who stated this in an interview with reporters in Jalingo, said his decision to join the race followed wide consultations and deep reflection on the challenges confronting the state.
Shiddi said the move was borne out of a sense of duty and commitment to reposition Taraba for sustainable growth and development.
According to him, Taraba people have continued to endure avoidable hardship caused by poor infrastructure, insecurity, unemployment and the failure of leadership over the years.
He lamented the deteriorating condition of roads, the struggling healthcare system and inadequate educational facilities across the state, noting that young graduates are still unemployed, despite the state’s enormous potential.
The aspirant also decried what he called a growing culture of silence among citizens regarding governance failures and stressed that most residents had lost confidence in leadership due to unfulfilled promises and a lack of accountability.
“Taraba deserves better than excuses, propaganda and promises without results,” he stated.
He said that, despite being richly blessed with natural resources, cultural diversity, and energetic youth, the state was still lagging behind many states created at the same time in basic development.
The APGA governorship hopeful maintained that leadership should be anchored in service, accountability, vision, and measurable results, adding that governance must be inclusive and free of ethnic, religious, or political discrimination.
According to him, the 2027 election should not be about regional or sectional interests, but about competence, character and capacity to deliver good governance.
He particularly appealed to youths in the state to take an active interest in the political process, assuring that his administration would prioritise education, agriculture, entrepreneurship, technology, sports and job creation if elected.
“The time has come for a new generation of leadership that is honest, accessible, transparent and people-driven,” he said.
He further pledged to provide leadership rooted in humility, fairness and integrity, while calling on residents of the state to support what he described as a movement aimed at rebuilding Taraba democratically in 2027.
