Taraba State Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the state command of the Nigeria Police Force, have held an interactive session for investigation officers to enhance professionalism and ensure adherence to due process in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Taraba State.

The session, held on Monday at the State Police Command headquarters in Jalingo, brought together officers of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Investigation Police Officers (IPOs) from various formations and units within the command.

The engagement was facilitated by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the state Ministry of Justice, Barrister Abubakar Dahiru Mustapha, who emphasised the critical role of thorough investigations in discharging their duties.

Barrister Mustapha also emphasised the importance of proper documentation and the timely transmission of case files to the Directorate of Public Prosecution to expedite the delivery of Justice.

The DPP then highlighted common shortcomings that often hinder successful prosecution and offered practical guidance for investigating officers on how to address these challenges.

He stressed the importance of strict compliance with legal provisions, respect for human rights, and observance of due process in handling cases.

He said that these elements are essential to ensuring justice and boosting public confidence in the criminal justice system.

He also urged investigators to work closely with legal officers from the early stages of investigations to improve the quality of case files and prosecution success.
