Taylor Swift has made history as the youngest woman and second-youngest artist ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The 36-year-old received the honour Thursday night at the organisation’s 55th Annual Gala at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City, joined by her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, her fiancé, Travis Kelce, and his mother, Donna Kelce.

Swift delivered a 21-minute acceptance speech, reflecting on her 23-year career and the sacrifices her family made to support her. She recalled how her parents and brother uprooted their lives to move the family from Pennsylvania to Nashville so she could pursue songwriting in America’s music capital. Fighting back tears, she told her parents, “You’re the reason I’m here tonight.”

Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who was personally requested by Swift, introduced her at the ceremony. Swift said a line moved her from Spielberg’s wife, Kate Capshaw, who told her, “Good and true things are easy.”

Despite decades of public scrutiny, industry battles and world tours, Swift said songwriting remained the one constant that always felt natural, calling it “the easiest thing I’ve ever done.”

Singer Sombr paid tribute before Swift took the stage, performing “Dear John” and “Cardigan,” songs Swift later described as “perfect.”

Swift joins the 2026 class alongside Alanis Morissette, Kenny Loggins, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS, Walter Afanasieff, Terry Britten, Graham Lyle and Christopher “Tricky” Stewart.

It’s noteworthy that only Stevie Wonder, inducted at 32 in 1983, was younger when he received the honour.
