TCN Announces 6-Hour Power Outage In Parts Of Abuja For Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled power outage in parts of Abuja to allow for preventive maintenance on a major power transformer.

TCN, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said its maintenance team would carry out routine checks on a 100MVA transformer and its associated switchgear at the Central Area GIS 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

According to the company, the maintenance exercise is scheduled to take place from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

“The maintenance exercise will enable TCN engineers undertake routine preventive checks on the transformer from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026,” the statement said.

The exercise is expected to affect electricity supply to several parts of the Federal Capital Territory as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to supply customers in the affected areas during the maintenance period.

Areas listed by TCN include Wuse Zones 1–7, the Sheraton Hotel area, the Central Business District, Utako, Jabi and adjoining communities.

TCN said the planned interruption was necessary to enable its engineers to conduct preventive maintenance and ensure the continued reliability of the transmission infrastructure.

The company apologised to electricity consumers in the affected areas for the inconvenience caused by the outage.

“TCN apologises for the inconvenience this planned outage will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas,” it stated.

The transmission company added that the exercise forms part of its ongoing efforts to maintain the reliability and stability of the national transmission network.
