World Paralympic champion and Team Nigeria captain Folashade Oluwafemiayo has praised the quality of Nigeria’s pre-Commonwealth Games training camp in Aberdeen, expressing confidence that the athletes are on course for a successful outing at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

With the Games set to begin on 23 July, Team Nigeria has been fine-tuning its preparations in the Scottish city, where athletes across various sports have been undergoing intensive training ahead of the competition.

Oluwafemiayo, one of Nigeria’s most decorated para-powerlifters and a multiple world champion, said the training environment and facilities had provided the ideal platform for athletes to reach peak condition before the Games.

The Team Nigeria captain noted that the camp has enabled athletes to focus fully on their preparations, while also strengthening team spirit and fostering unity across the contingent.

Other members of Team Nigeria also expressed satisfaction with the organisation of the camp, describing the facilities, accommodation and overall logistics as first-class. They said the conducive atmosphere had allowed them to concentrate on improving their performances and adapting to the conditions ahead of the Games in nearby Glasgow.

The athletes also commended the efforts of the National Sports Commission and other stakeholders for ensuring a smooth camping programme, saying the early preparations would boost Nigeria’s medal prospects.

Team Nigeria will be looking to build on its rich history at the Commonwealth Games when competition begins in Glasgow later this month. The country’s athletes are expected to challenge for medals in events including athletics, wrestling, weightlifting, para-powerlifting, boxing and table tennis.

With morale high in camp and preparations entering the final phase, the Nigerian contingent is optimistic of delivering outstanding performances and making the nation proud at one of the Commonwealth’s biggest sporting events.
