The National Sports Commission (NSC) has lauded Team Nigeria’s exceptional performance and exemplary conduct at the recent African Youth Games, hailing it as a clear demonstration of the nation’s extensive grassroots talent and a bright future for Nigerian sport.
Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the Commission, extended praise to the athletes, coaches, and support staff for their unwavering dedication, with particular recognition for the grassroots development team.
“This performance is a testament to the amazing pool of talent we have in Nigeria,” Hon. Olopade stated.
“I have no doubt that many of the budding stars discovered from this championship will eventually become world beaters.”
The NSC also expressed its profound gratitude to the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), led by Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, for its consistent guidance and support throughout the Games.
“Youth games are developmental platforms and not solely for laurels. You have all done exceedingly well,” the Commission added, urging participants to take pride in their achievements.
In a separate message, Hon. Olopade further emphasised the long-term vision underpinning investments in youth sports. “What we have seen at the African Youth Games reinforces our belief in structured grassroots development. These athletes represent the future of Nigerian sports.” He affirmed the NSC’s commitment to providing pathways, exposure, and support to transform promising talents into global champions.
“We are proud of Team Nigeria, not just for the medals won, but for the discipline, growth, and resilience displayed throughout the Games,” he concluded.
The NSC reiterated its commitment to fortifying youth development frameworks nationwide, ensuring the sustainable nurturing of talent identified at competitions such as the African Youth Games.
