No fewer than six people were killed while six others were hospitalised on Thursday following the explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along Bagega to Anka Road in Anka local government area of Zamfara State.

Sources said that the IED detonated in the early hours of Thursday, affecting a commercial motor vehicle carrying passengers, leading to damages and traffic disruption along the Bagega-Anka road.

According to local sources, the explosive device, planted by suspected bandits, detonated when the commercial vehicle was passing through the area.

A resident of Bagega town, who pleaded anonymity, said the explosion occurred around 9am on Thursday, adding that some of the passengers in the bus died while others sustained serious injuries.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Zamfara State Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said six people were reported to have died and six others were receiving treatment in hospital.
