The Parish Priest of St Ambrose Catholic Church, Ekpan, Uvwie local government area of Delta State, Fr Tega Ogbeni, has said birthday thanksgiving is a sure way to receive and sustain God’s blessings.
He stated this yesterday when Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, chairman of the Delta State Bureau for Pensions and former permanent secretary of Government House, Asaba, marked his 60th birthday anniversary.
“Birthdays are not just a reminder of passing years, but an opportunity to reflect and give thanks to God for physical and spiritual well-being,” Ogbeni stated.
While likening the importance of birthday thanksgiving to the leper in the Bible who returned to thank God after he was healed, he emphasised the need for all Christians to give thanks to God.
Flanked by his wife, Lady Theresa Ogidi-Gbegbaje, the celebrant said he has remained steadfast and held on to God despite difficulties and challenges.
“God has brought me to this height and has continuously been a source of strength and protection for me and my family.”
“At 60 years old, my joy knows no bounds. The grace of God gives me multiple causes to celebrate.”
Ogidi-Gbegbaje extolled God for His goodness and mercies, recalling his upbringing and career experience while growing up and adding that God’s grace saw him through.
While thanking dignitaries for honouring his invitation, Ogidi-Gbegbaje concluded that he would continue to praise God for his mercies and compassion towards him.
The chairman of the occasion and commissioner for works, rural, and riverine roads, Hon Charles Aniagwu, described the celebrant as a man who exemplified love and knew how to build bridges.
While praying for God to bless him with a healthy life, the commissioner urged the celebrant to remain the person he is and continue to impact his environment positively as he has always done.
Hon Solomon Ighrakpata, chairman of Delta State Board of Internal Revenue and uncle to the celebrant, while speaking to newsmen, described Ogidi-Gbegbaje as an embodiment of God’s grace.
He appreciated God for his life while wishing him a glorious 60th birthday anniversary celebration.
