In India fans, arrived at the green carpet for the events long before the opening. There were a couple sections for fans such as Chai (Tea) With The Chosen, and the Influencer Lounge. Coincidentally, Chai in Hebrew means ‘life’.

In Mumbai, the series expanded from one screen to three screens in the theatre, with actor, Paras Patel who plays Matthew in the series, describing it as, “the most pleasantly surprising experience”.

“I always knew my Indian supporters will show up. I felt all the love from a long time ago, and it’s just exciting’ It’s blowing my mind.”

Another ‘The Chosen’ actor, Aalok Mehta (Barnaby) said of the Indian premiere reception, “My roots are here, my ancestry is here. Mumbai is my hometown in India. It’s in my blood and DNA. To now come back through ‘The Chosen’, it’s amazing. It’s been heartwarming. This is the fan moment.”

Meanwhile in the Philippines Jonathan Roumie is seen at a packed green carpet in Manilla, signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. Initially, The Chosen booked one theatre cinema. However, because Philippines love The Chosen, a second cinema theatre was booked to accommodate the 1400 fans at the premiere in Manilla.

Responding to the show’s fans in Manilla, Roumie said, “Its nuts. All you guys are crazy.”

He also expressed hope that those who hadn’t seen the seen the series would leave the premiere with a sense of it, “as building an audience for Jesus, and fans of Jesus, because at the end of the day that is what this is all about.”

“Our supporters will take away the message of loving one another,” said Patel.

For an Indian fan, the premeire and the feelings accompanying it is similar to the ‘Avengers’ fandom. “It is like a typical Marvel movie, where Captain America says, “Avengers assemble”. Those same goosebumps are happening here.”

Others said:

“We have never seen the US ‘The Chosen Con’ and the entire panelist sit down like this.”

“’The Chosen’ came here (Manila). I thank the Lord for this.”

“It feels good to experience a story like ‘The Chosen’ in the big screen.”

The general reaction of the series fans in India and Philippines are indicative of its global impact.

‘The Chosen Season 5: The Last Supper’, will release March 27, 2025, in the US and Canada, and the entire season released in three parts over the course of four weeks.
