TheWireng, an online news platform, has launched a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the Niger Delta’s wetlands.

The project manager, Tife Owolabi, in a statement yesterday, said that the campaign, which is part of the platform’s environmental objectives, aims to highlight the vital role that wetlands play in supporting biodiversity, livelihoods, and the overall health of the ecosystem.

He stated that the Niger Delta is home to one of the world’s largest wetland ecosystems, providing a habitat for a vast array of plant and animal life, adding that the wetlands are under threat from oil pollution, deforestation, urbanization, and climate change.

“The Niger Delta’s wetlands are a national treasure that requires our immediate attention and protection. We are committed to using our platform to raise awareness about the importance of preserving these vital ecosystems.

“The campaign will feature a series of articles, videos, and social media posts that highlight the importance of wetlands and the challenges they face. The Wire NG will also partner with local communities, NGOs, and government agencies to promote sustainable development and conservation efforts.
