The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has downplayed the political relevance of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing its embattled leaders as “twinkle twinkle little stars” who failed to make any meaningful impact even when united.
Speaking on ‘Sunday Politics’, a current affairs programme on Channels Television on Sunday night, Morka said that although some members of the ADC may appear influential individually, they, however, lacked unity.
“They are just filled with this self-appointed importance because they, Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, Rotimi Amaechi was former governor and former minister and Rauf Aregbeshola was former governor. You know, they’ve been everything there is to be but all of them put together, individually they look like they are superstars, but when they come together, they are ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars’, making no impact whatsoever,” he said.
Morka’s remarks come amid allegations by the ADC that the ruling APC was orchestrating internal crises within opposition parties through indirect interference and political subterfuge.
Responding to the claims, the APC spokesman dismissed the accusations as baseless, insisting that the ruling party had no reason to destabilise its opponents.
“We have no reason to do that,” Morka said, rejecting suggestions that the APC was sponsoring divisions within rival political parties.
He argued that recent electoral outcomes demonstrated that the APC remained firmly in control of Nigeria’s political landscape, questioning why the party would feel threatened by the ADC.
“Why would we be afraid when we have consistently won elections since 2023?” he asked.
Citing recent by-elections in some federal and state constituencies, Morka said the ADC has failed to make any electoral impact, describing the party as largely absent from the political contest.
“We had the by-elections recently in the country. The ADC was a no-show. They didn’t even perform. We’ve had several constituency elections since the 2023 elections; the ADC did not register any impact whatsoever,” he stated.
He further dismissed the opposition party as a “non-starter,” adding that its perceived importance was exaggerated by its members.
“What exactly do we have to fear? Fear a party that is a non-starter, a party that is almost as good as non-existent. We have nothing to fear about the ADC,” Morka stated.
