Chinwetel Ejiofor’s ‘Backrooms’ Film Trailer Highlights Yellow Fear

‘Backrooms’, starring Nigerian British actor Chinwetel Ejiofor and European Film Best Actress winner Renata Reinsve, highlights the eeriness and fear through the colour yellow.

Yellow has never really been a colour that inspires eeriness and fear, but when it is the sole colour in a room whose walls close in on its occupants, aiming to suffocate them, it loses its sunniness quickly and veers towards the menacing.

Created by Kane Parsons, the trailer shows Ejiofor as he tries unsuccessfully to navigate the backrooms of a work building, that has swallowed up his colleagues. Afraid of being dismissed as hallucinatory, Ejiofor speaks to a psychologist played by Reinsve, who initially didn’t believe him until she experienced the backrooms herself. Both struggle via different timelines to escape the ‘backrooms’.

‘Backrooms’ is set to premiere in May 2026.
