Before electric blenders became common, many families relied on the traditional grinding stone to prepare their meals. It was an important kitchen tool used mainly for grinding peppers, tomatoes, onions and other cooking ingredients.

The grinding stone consisted of a large flat stone and a smaller hand-held stone used for crushing and grinding food into a smooth paste. Preparing meals with it required patience, strength and time, especially for large families. Despite the stress involved, many people believed food prepared with the grinding stone tasted richer and more natural.

In many homes, the stone was more than a cooking tool. It formed part of family tradition and daily life. Young girls learned how to use it from their mothers and grandmothers, making it a skill passed from one generation to another. The sound of grinding stones was once common in many compounds, especially in the mornings.

Another advantage of the grinding stone was its durability. Families used the same stone for many years without spending money on repairs or fuel. It depended only on human effort.

However, things changed with the arrival of electric blenders. Blenders made cooking faster and easier, allowing people to grind ingredients within minutes. As electricity became more available and blenders more affordable, many households gradually abandoned the traditional grinding stone.

Today, the grinding stone is rarely seen except in a few rural communities. Many young people only hear about it through stories from older generations.

Although modern technology has replaced it in most homes, the grinding stone remains a symbol of the past. It reminds people of the hard work, patience and dedication that once defined everyday life and food preparation in earlier times.
