The Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Oko-Irese, lrepodun local government area of Kwara State has acquired and deployed a state of the art virtual dissection table to enhance the training of its medical students.

The institution recently unveiled the Acsclepius TBK 84 EA Virtual Dissection Table, an advanced 84-inch interactive 3D platform designed for anatomy, radiology, and surgical simulation.

The equipment, supplied by 3B Scientific, Germany, represents a major investment in cutting-edge educational technology.

With the introduction of this innovation, TAU becomes one of the first universities in Nigeria to integrate virtual dissection technology into its medical curriculum, marking a new era in the teaching and learning of human anatomy.

University officials described the development as a transformative milestone that redefines the traditional anatomy theatre.

Unlike conventional cadaver-based methods, the virtual dissection table enables students to explore the human body digitally in life-size detail, examining structures layer by layer without the need for physical dissection.

With this breakthrough, TAU medical students and doctors can now perform a wide range of advanced learning and clinical simulations, including virtual dissections of life-size human cadavers, real-time conversion of CT and MRI scans into detailed 3D models, and simulation of complex pre-surgical procedures.

They can also conduct in-depth studies in histopathology, radiology, and endoscopy, as well as comparative anatomy across over 40 animal species.

The platform further enhances learning through access to more than 12,000 curriculum-based assessment questions, enabling students to test their knowledge and sharpen diagnostic skills in a highly interactive environment.

Stakeholders in the education sector have lauded the initiative, noting that such technological advancement positions TAU among the most forward-looking medical institutions in the country.

They added that the investment would not only improve the quality of medical training but also better prepare students and medical doctors for modern, technology-driven clinical practice.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and innovation, stating that the acquisition aligns with its vision of delivering world-class education within Nigeria.
