At least three persons died in Kano on Friday when a petrol tanker crashed along Zaria Road by Kura Market Junction in Kura local government area.

Spokesman of the Kano State fire service, Saminu Yusif, in a statement yesterday said the accident occurred around 1:30pm.

According to him, the service received a distress call from a retired civil defence officer, Danlami Muhammad, and immediately deployed responders from its headquarters to the scene.

He explained that upon arrival, the firefighters discovered that the tanker, with registration number NGZ 250 XA loaded with about 30,000 litres of petrol, had fallen and caught fire, hitting a cyclist.

He said, “The incident affected four people; three were unconscious on rescue and were later confirmed dead, while the cyclist managed to escape alive.”
