Three members of the House of Representatives have defected from their respective parties to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a move that signals growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers ,Thaddeus Attah, representing Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State; Usman Zubairu, representing Birnin Gwari/Giwa Federal Constituency of Kaduna State; and Sani Noma, representing Argungu/Augie Federal Constituency of Kebbi State, announced their decision to join the ADC during plenary on Tuesday.
Attah left the Labour Party, while Zubairu and Noma exited the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), respectively.
In a related development, Abubakar Buba, representing Chanchaga Federal Constituency of Niger State, and Ibrahim Mohammed, representing Bunza/Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo Federal Constituency of Kebbi State, defected from the PDP to the APC.
Similarly, two lawmakers from Osun State, Mudashiru Alani, representing Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency, and Adetunji Olusoji, representing Odo-Otin/Ifelodun/Boripe Federal Constituency , dumped the PDP for the Accord Party.
Meanwhile, in Taraba State, David Fuoh, who represents Sarduana/Kurmi/Gashaka Federal Constituency, moved from the APC to the PDP.
The Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, formally announced the defections during plenary after reading the letters submitted by the affected lawmakers.
The legislators cited persistent internal crises and divisions within their former parties as the primary reason for their decisions to switch allegiance.
The wave of defections reflects increasing political maneuvering and shifting alliances within the National Assembly, as parties begin to consolidate ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Following the announcements, the House adjourned plenary until Wednesday in honour of Muhammad Hassan, a member representing Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State, who died on April 10 after a brief illness.
