Tinubu Assures ASUU Of Better Welfare

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that their welfare would be adequately taken care of to prevent them from frequenting strike actions to press home their demands.

The president who was represented by the director, University Education of the Federal Ministry of Education, Ochodo James, at the combined convocation of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi (ATBU) yesterday in Bauchi said government would address the root causes of strike actions causing irreplaceable damage to academic calendar of Nigerian universities.
“I want to acknowledge the resilience of academics, especially the university sub-sector. You have given your best over the time in spite of difficult circumstances.
“We shall do everything within our powers and within our limited resources to ensure that the university in Nigeria is improved in tune with global best practices.

“Nigerian universities have witnessed untold hardship situation over the years due to frequent strike actions. We are now focused on creating an enabling environment for sustainable dialogue in other to bring frequent strike actions by staff unions to a permanent end. We will address some of the root causes of strike in our universities and other tertiary institutions,” he said.

President Tinubu condemned the attitude of some Nigerians who go to shoddy universities abroad to acquire fake degrees.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed who was represented by his deputy Auwal Mohammed Jatau commended the contributions of the university in development of education in the country.

Vice Chancellor of ATBU, Professor Muhammad Abdul’aziz praised the federal government for its unflinching support to funding university education in the country.
