President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his reform-driven leadership, commitment to trade facilitation, and focus on officers’ welfare.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Ogun State Cargo Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, the president praised Adeniyi’s efforts at improving the ease of doing business and repositioning the Customs Service as a key driver of economic growth.

Dignitaries present at the commissioning included the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun; former president Olusegun Obasanjo; Iyabo Obasanjo; Senator Olamilekan Adeola; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; and prominent business figures including Femi Otedola and Abdul Samad Rabiu, among others.

Tinubu described the Customs boss as a “very dedicated and performing Comptroller-General,” noting that his administration recognises the strides made under Adeniyi’s leadership in modernising operations and enhancing efficiency.

“Thanks for the ease of doing business and your commitment to the welfare of Customs officers. I have watched your presentations many times again and again, and Nigeria will continue to remember your commitments, legacy and patriotism,” the president said.

The commendation comes amid ongoing reforms within the NCS aimed at boosting revenue generation, strengthening border security, and aligning operations with global best practices.

Industry stakeholders have also acknowledged recent improvements in trade processes, digitalisation efforts, and enhanced engagement between Customs and the private sector, which have contributed to smoother cargo clearance and reduced bottlenecks at ports.

Observers say the president’s public endorsement is expected to further boost morale within the Service, especially as the leadership continues to prioritise personnel welfare through improved working conditions, training, and capacity development initiatives.

Since assuming office, Adeniyi has emphasised professionalism, transparency, and collaboration as key pillars of his administration, positioning the NCS as a more responsive and service-oriented institution.
