President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the killing of one of the teachers abducted from Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the incident as “barbaric” and ordering intensified efforts to rescue other victims still in captivity.

In a statement issued on Monday from the State House, Abuja, and signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the state government.

“President Bola Tinubu has condemned as barbaric the reported killing of one of the abducted teachers from the Esiele community in Oyo State, while the rescue operation is underway,” the statement read.

The Presidency said armed men had earlier invaded schools in the community, abducting teachers, students and pupils from multiple institutions, including Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.

It added that security agencies have since launched coordinated operations aimed at tracking down the attackers and securing the release of the remaining victims.

“Security operatives are working around the clock to rescue the victims and apprehend the bandits and their collaborators within the community,” the statement said.

Tinubu sympathised with Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, and commended the response of security agencies involved in the rescue mission.

He also said the federal government is working closely with the Oyo State Government, noting that specialised police units, including the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), have been deployed.

“The Inspector-General of Police, following my instructions, is personally leading the tech-driven operation. We expect a breakthrough soon,” he said.

Tinubu added that the incident highlights the urgency of strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture, reiterating his call for the establishment of state police.

“Cases of kidnapping further make imperative the establishment of state police to man some of our underserved areas. The National Assembly should accelerate the enactment of the law creating state police,” he stated.
