In a swift response to circulating rumours, the Presidency has categorically denied reports suggesting that President Bola Tinubu has asked Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, to resign from his position.

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, on a post on his X handle on Tuesday night, dismissed the claims as “all lies.”

The post emphatically declared that President Tinubu has not made any such request to Governor Cardoso.

He said: “It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign.”

The denial comes in the wake of unverified reports alleging that President Tinubu had ordered Cardoso’s resignation due to concerns over the nation’s economy performance and the continued depreciation of the Naira.

The reports, which the Presidency now labelled as false, had claimed that the directive was given before the President’s recent trip to China.

Furthermore, the circulating rumours had suggested that Yoruba Elders had intervened on Cardoso’s behalf, attempting to save his position.

The reports also insinuated that Cardoso’s initial appointment was secured through the influence of the same elders.
