President Bola Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University, in honour of the late renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
The President made the announcement on Saturday in Bauchi during a condolence visit to the family of the late cleric at his mosque, where he paid tribute to the scholar’s life of service, learning and devotion to Islam.
According to the President, the decision to rename the institution was aimed at immortalising the legacies of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, whose influence spanned decades in Islamic scholarship, spiritual guidance and community development across Nigeria and beyond.
Tinubu described the late Sheikh as a symbol of humility, discipline and peaceful coexistence, noting that his teachings and moral values had positively shaped generations of followers and contributed to national unity.
The renaming of the university, the President said, reflected the Federal Government’s recognition of outstanding individuals who have made lasting contributions to society, while also serving as an inspiration to future generations to uphold knowledge, service and integrity.
