Tinubu, Ribadu Commended For Diplomatic Response To Trump

The Citizens Project have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for their calm, measured, and statesmanlike response to recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning Nigeria’s security situation.

In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP, Project Coordinator of the organisation, A’dab Ukor maintained that Nigeria and the United States share a long-standing relationship founded on mutual respect, democratic ideals, and shared aspirations for peace and prosperity.

He said it is in this enduring spirit of partnership that we believe continued dialogue and collaboration remain the most effective means of confronting global and regional security threats.

“The insurgency that has afflicted parts of Nigeria for more than fifteen years has caused suffering across communities of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds. Since the Tinubu administration assumed office in 2023, however, the situation has improved noticeably through enhanced coordination, intelligence-led operations, and renewed commitments to community resilience and peacebuilding.

“The Citizens Project respectfully encourages the U.S. government to sustain its valued partnership with Nigeria by strengthening avenues for cooperation, rather than through expressions that may inadvertently be misinterpreted. Constructive engagement—particularly in intelligence sharing, training, and technological support—remains the surest way to achieve our shared goal of defeating terrorism and restoring enduring stability.

The organisation said through research, advocacy, and public engagement, it has amplified citizens’ voices, fosters accountability in governance, and encouraged informed participation in nation-building through strategic media engagements.

“We therefore reaffirm our unwavering support for President Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and Nigeria’s security institutions in their ongoing commitment to protect citizens, consolidate peace, and defend the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“At its core, The Citizens Project stands for peace, integrity, and progress—championing collaboration between government, citizens, and the international community in advancing Nigeria’s stability, prosperity, and global reputation.”
