President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm the appointment of Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, as chairman of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) board.

In a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Wednesday, Tinubu said the nomination was made in line with section 116 of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Act of 2003.

“In accordance with the provisions of section 116 of the Nigerian Communications Commission Act 2003, I am pleased to present, for confirmation by the senate, the appointment of the underlisted eight persons as chairman and members of the board of Universal Service Provision Board (USPF),” the letter read.

The nominees are Idris Olorunimbe as vice-chairman, Abraham Oshidami, Rimini Makama, Aliyu Edogi Aliyu representing the ministry of communications, Joseph B. Faluyi representing the ministry of finance, Auwal Mohammed representing the ministry of budget and national planning, Uzoma Dozie, Peter Bankole, Abayomi Anthony Okanlawon, and Gafar Oluwasegun Quadri.

Tinubu urged the Senate to give the request its usual prompt consideration.

In response, Senate President Akpabio referred the nominations to the Senate Committee on Communications, instructing the committee to report back with its findings and recommendations within one week.
