President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Sultan of Sokoto and leading political figures have condoled the family and followers of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi over the passing of the eminent Islamic cleric.
President Tinubu, represented by the minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the Economy, Dr Wale Edun and the minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, visited the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Mosque at Unguwar Jaki to console the bereaved family during the third-day prayer session for the deceased.
Tinubu described the late Islamic luminary as “a man of peace, a pillar of national unity and a beacon of religious harmony.”
He assured the family that his administration would remain committed to building the Nigeria the revered scholar prayed and worked tirelessly for, stressing that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s spiritual influence extended beyond Nigeria and the African continent.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, expressed sorrow over the demise of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, calling it “a monumental loss to the global Muslim community.”
He urged clerics to emulate the Sheikh’s legacy of humility, truth, tolerance and scholarship.
The Sultan also advised the Sheikh’s children to remain united in continuing the noble path their father thread.
Former Kano State governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, also paid tribute, describing Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi as a towering figure whose teachings shaped generations.
He said the Sheikh’s commitment to spiritual enlightenment and peaceful coexistence had directly impacted communities across northern Nigeria.
Kwankwaso emphasised that the late cleric’s guidance had been invaluable to leaders, offering wisdom at critical national moments.
Similarly, former Gombe State governor, Senator Danjuma Goje, mourned the loss of a leader he described as “a father to all.”
Goje noted the Sheikh’s compassion and his consistent role in deescalating tensions during periods of religious or political uncertainty.
On his part, the senator representing Bauchi South, Sen Shehu Buba, said the cleric’s passing had created a spiritual vacuum that would be difficult to fill. He described Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi as a guide whose teachings shaped the moral direction of thousands.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State commended President Tinubu, the Sultan, and all dignitaries who visited to sympathise with the family, noting that their presence reflected the national stature of the late Sheikh.
The governor said Bauchi State would continue to support the family and ensure that the Sheikh’s legacies remain preserved for future generations.
Responding on behalf of the family, Dr Ibrahim Dahiru Bauchi, the eldest son of the deceased, expressed gratitude to the president, traditional rulers, political leaders and thousands of followers for identifying with them.
He described his father as a man who dedicated every breath of his life to the service of God and humanity and promised that the family would strive to uphold his principles of peace, scholarship and devotion that their father represented.
