President Bola Tinubu will be formally presented with the Commonwealth Sport King’s Baton during the delegation’s visit from Buckingham Palace.
Nigeria is set to welcome the King’s Baton Relay as part of the official countdown to the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with the event scheduled for July 1–2, 2025, in Abuja.
Director Press, National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr kehinde Ajayi disclosed this through a statement made available to LEADERSHIP on Monday in Abuja.
The King’s Baton Relay represents a unifying tradition of the Commonwealth Games, symbolising peace, collaboration, and shared values among nations.
This year, the Commonwealth Sport movement is collaborating with the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) and Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) to promote the “Commonwealth Clean Oceans Plastics Campaign.”
This initiative aims to unite athletes, young people, and communities across the Commonwealth in tackling the global crisis of plastic pollution.
The campaign seeks to prevent one million pieces of plastic from entering Commonwealth waters.
By harnessing the power of sport and social action, it aims to inspire lasting behavioural change, foster innovation in waste management solutions, and raise awareness about ocean conservation.
