As Muslims across Nigeria prepare for the holy month of Ramadan, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, has called on the faithful to embrace this period for profound spiritual reflection, discipline, and a renewed commitment to personal and national values.
In his message to fasting Muslims, Hon. Adeboye described Ramadan as a unique opportunity for moral renewal, self-control, and purposeful living, particularly pertinent as the nation strives for greater unity and direction.
“Ramadan is a period that reminds us of discipline, sacrifice, patience, and compassion,” the SSA stated. “These values are not only central to faith but are also essential for building strong individuals, responsible young people, and a united nation.”
He cautioned against reducing the holy month to mere routines or social activities, emphasising that its true essence lies in reflection, humility, and a conscious effort to become better citizens.
According to Hon. Adeboye, the lessons of Ramadan strongly resonate with sports and youth development, where discipline, focus, and character form the foundations of excellence.
“For our young people in particular, this season should inspire self-improvement, purpose, and positive choices. Discipline learned during Ramadan can translate into success in sports, education, and leadership,” he noted.
The presidential aide also urged Nigerians to use this period to strengthen community bonds, promote peace, and show kindness to one another, irrespective of religious or cultural differences.
“Ramadan reminds us that unity, empathy, and shared responsibility are key to progress. When we carry these values beyond the fasting period, we build a stronger and more peaceful Nigeria,” he added.
