The executive chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNG-i), Ismael Ahmed, has expressed regret over the defection of former Kano State deputy governor, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a cryptic Facebook post on Tuesday, Ahmed conveyed his dissatisfaction with the development, asking whether the situation could have been averted.
“Gaskiya I am not happy that HE left us. Could we have avoided this?” he wrote.
His reaction came amid growing unease within the APC following Gawuna’s resignation as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and his subsequent move to the ADC.
Recall that Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari and All Progressives Congress (APC) member in Kano State, also described the defection of Gawuna from the APC to the ADC as a significant setback for the cause of the ruling party.
Ahmad, reacting via a Facebook post on Monday night, lamented the development, stating, “Gawuna was a strong pillar of our party, losing him to an opposition party is a huge blow to our cause.”
LEADERSHIP reports that Gawuna tendered his resignation in a letter dated March 27, 2026, citing compliance with directives tied to Nigeria’s electoral laws.
“My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring all political appointees to step down in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act,” Gawuna stated.
The former APC governorship candidate in the 2023 elections is expected to formally join the ADC as political realignments continued to gather momentum in Kano State, particularly around former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In his resignation letter, Gawuna expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.
“I am profoundly grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve. It has been a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and our country,” he said.
He also spoke on his future plans, entrusting them to divine guidance.
“I place my future in the hands of Allah (SWT), and I seek His guidance on my next course of action,” Gawuna added.
Gawuna further assured of a seamless transition process.
“I remain committed to ensuring a smooth transition process and will hand over all responsibilities in accordance with established procedures and directives,” he said.
Ahmed’s reaction underscores widening concern within APC circles over the implications of Gawuna’s exit, particularly in Kano State, where the former deputy governor remains a significant political figure.
