The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the swift fulfillment of housing pledges made to Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress. The housing documents were delivered to the victorious team in Lyon, France, by NSC Chairman Malam Shehu Dikko on Tuesday, a move Olopade describes as a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to Nigerian athletes.
In a post on his X handle, @bukolaolopadee, an ecstatic Olopade stated: “Again, this is another proof that Nigeria truly has the most sports-loving President in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR @officialABAT, who is transforming Nigerian sports with reforms and putting the country’s athletes first.”
The D’Tigress team had secured their fifth consecutive Women’s Afrobasket triumph last August in Côte d’Ivoire, and the President’s immediate action has been met with widespread commendation. Olopade further highlighted the significance of this gesture, noting, “This is a clear departure from what it used to be in the past, where athletes were promised things by the Federal Government but had to wait years before they were reluctantly fulfilled.”
He concluded by emphasizing that this prompt fulfillment aligns perfectly with the President’s vision: “This is the Renewed Hope agenda Mr. President promised Nigerians, and we are all witnessing its results in sports every day. No be Cho Cho Cho!!!!” The D’Tigress players received their housing documents while participating in the ongoing FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament.
