Vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration contributed to the death of his mother.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, made the allegation on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

The former governor said his mother was healthy before Tinubu became president but that the rising cost of drugs after the administration assumed office made it difficult for him to provide the medication she needed.

“Before Tinubu became president, my mother was healthy. Suddenly, Tinubu came and, by the time people came, I was about to buy drugs for my mother,” Amaechi said.

He was responding to questions about his criticism of the administration’s economic policies and their impact on Nigerians.

Amaechi also questioned what had happened to the funds generated from the removal of fuel subsidy, asking where the money had gone and whether Nigerians were seeing the benefits of the policy.

“Where are those funds that are supposed to be there as the outcome of what is called removal of subsidy? Where are they? The essence of the president removing subsidy is to improve the lives of Nigerians. Where is the money?” he asked.

The ADC vice-presidential candidate said the economic situation had made it difficult for many Nigerians to meet basic needs, including healthcare.

He also referred to the loss of other people close to him, arguing that the rising cost of living was affecting families across the country.

Amaechi further criticised the security situation, particularly alleged killings involving the police, while arguing that Nigerians were facing multiple challenges under the current administration.

His comments come amid growing political debate over the impact of the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy and its effect on household expenses.
