Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has attributed the defection of some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide reforms and infrastructure drive.
Aiyedatiwa made the remarks on Monday during a Thank-you Tour of the state’s local government areas, kicking off in the four LGAs of Akoko region: North-West, North-East, South-East, and South-West.
The governor thanked residents for their support this year and rallied backing for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.
The tour began in Oke-Agbe, headquarters of Akoko North-West Local Government Area, where traditional rulers, community leaders, APC members, and residents welcomed him in large numbers.
Addressing the crowd, Aiyedatiwa revealed that his 2024 gubernatorial opponent, Agboola Ajayi, had met with him and planned to join the APC soon.
He urged APC members and groups to unite, avoid internal conflicts, and embrace tolerance to meet party goals.
“I am here to greet and thank you,” he said. “Some say politicians don’t return after elections. I have no election now—I just came to appreciate your support for my administration.”
Aiyedatiwa also announced the party’s national and state endorsements of Tinubu as its 2027 candidate.
He praised Ondo residents for delivering APC victories across all local government areas and securing full control of the State House of Assembly.
The governor highlighted Tinubu’s reforms as key to economic growth in Ondo, pointing to the ongoing dualisation of the Ikare-Akungba Road as a proof of progress in the Akoko axis.
Acknowledging natural political rivalries, Aiyedatiwa assured members with disputes would be settled through dialogue. “There will be no fight in the party,” he said. “We will resolve all issues through dialogue, and everyone will be satisfied.”
The deputy governor, Olayide Adelami, speaking in Oka-Akoko (Akoko South-West), appreciated the large turnout of residents and party members.
The tour continued to Isua in Akoko South-East, where Aiyedatiwa paid homage to locals and thanked accompanying party leaders. Palliatives were distributed in each area visited as a gesture of appreciation to party faithful.
