In a thrilling display of speed and precision at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan—the world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles—stormed to victory on Wednesday night, securing her nation’s first gold medal of the competition.

The atmosphere inside the packed University of Ghana Stadium was electric as Amusan took her marks. Known for her explosive starts and flawless technique, the 29-year-old superstar did not disappoint.

When the gun sounded, she surged ahead immediately, clearing each hurdle with metronomic rhythm. By the fifth barrier, she had already opened a decisive gap on the field, leaving her rivals to battle for the remaining podium places.

Amusan powered through the finish line in a championship record time, throwing her arms wide in triumph as the scoreboard confirmed her dominance.

The victory marks her third African Senior title in the 100m hurdles, further cementing her legacy as the continent’s greatest ever in the event.

Behind the flying Nigerian, a fierce contest unfolded for silver and bronze. Zimbabwe’s Ashley Miller produced a career-best performance to claim the silver medal, dipping just ahead of the fast-finishing Adaobi Tabugbo of Nigeria.

For Tabugbo, the bronze was a landmark moment: it represented her first individual medal for Nigeria at a major championship. The young athlete collapsed onto the track in disbelief before being embraced by a beaming Amusan.
