Actor Tom Holland has revealed that he is already thinking about a future beyond Spider-Man, saying he would feel fulfilled if he could help introduce the next actor to take on the iconic superhero role.

The 29-year-old star made the remarks while discussing the future of the Spider-Man franchise ahead of his return in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, set to arrive in cinemas on July 31.

Holland first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War in 2016 and has since spent nearly a decade portraying the beloved character. He went on to headline the Spider-Man trilogy, which includes ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.

Speaking about the future, Holland said he would welcome the opportunity to help usher in a new era for the franchise, whether through the introduction of characters such as Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen or Spider-Woman.

According to the actor, he would be satisfied if he could play a mentoring role similar to Robert Downey Jr.’s when he first entered the Marvel universe. Downey portrayed Tony Stark, whose character served as a mentor to Holland’s Peter Parker in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.

“If I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset,” Holland said.

Holland is the third actor to portray Peter Parker in a live-action film, following Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Both actors reprised their roles alongside Holland in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, one of Marvel’s most successful crossover projects.

The upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is expected to continue the story following the events of ‘No Way Home’, which ended with Peter Parker living in a world where those closest to him no longer remember his identity.

Beyond Marvel, Holland is also set to appear in ‘The Odyssey’, directed by Christopher Nolan, which is scheduled for release ahead of the new Spider-Man installment.
