A House of Representatives aspirant for Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in Lagos, Segun Tomori, has formally declared his intention to contest in the next election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to bring “fresh impetus and dynamic service” to the constituency.
Tomori, who had been serving as the special assistant on media to the minister of solid minerals development, announced his ambition in a press statement at the weekend.
He said his decision was driven by years of political engagement and a desire to contribute more directly to grassroots development through legislation.
“I hereby formally declare my aspiration to contest for the House of Representatives, to represent the good people of Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, Lagos, under the platform of our great party, the APC,” he said.
Tracing his political consciousness to the events surrounding the June 12, 1993 presidential election and its annulment, Tomori said the experience shaped his long-standing interest in governance and democracy.
“Witnessing the hope and excitement on the faces of my parents and other adults at the time struck a deep chord in me,” he noted, adding that the struggle for the de-annulment of the election deepened his affinity for politics.
He also recalled following the activities of pro-democracy figures and groups, including the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), which he said played a key role in the restoration of democratic rule in 1999.
According to him, his eventual decision to join active politics in 2010 was deliberate, as he aligned with the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), a legacy party that later became part of the APC.
“I was motivated by the progressive bent of the party, coupled with the fact that its leading lights stood to be counted in the June 12 struggle,” he said.
Highlighting his experience, Tomori said he has spent over a decade working across both the legislative and executive arms of government, including roles with a member of the House of Representatives and two ministers.
“With over a decade of hands-on experience spanning both the National Assembly and the Executive… I believe the time has come to answer the call of my people,” he said.
The aspirant said his campaign would be driven by three core values—Service, Excellence and Trust—forming the basis of what he described as the “SET Campaign.”
“Our manifesto is anchored on eight pillars, including community health outreach, support for women and vulnerable families, youth and sports talent development, education interventions, and initiatives to light up Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II,” he explained.
Tomori emphasised the need for purposeful legislation to improve the welfare of constituents and Nigerians at large.
“There is much work to be done through purposeful legislation—not only to improve the welfare of our constituents but also the lives of the average Nigerian,” he said.
He added that his candidacy would complement the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu, stressing his readiness to deliver results.
“I bring to this race the dynamism of youth, fresh ideas, and a proven ability to build consensus and deliver results,” he stated.
Expressing confidence in his chances, Tomori declared: “Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II is set for better representation.”
