Speaking during the ceremony on Wednesday in Abuja, Country Public Diplomacy Counsellor of the United States Embassy in Abuja, Lee McManis, said the contest is more than a showcase of American products and brands.
He said the event was a celebration of enduring partnership between the United States and Nigeria- a partnership built on commerce, mutual respect and a commitment to progress, adding that a key priority of the US mission is to increase trade, investment, and business ties between both nations.
He said “last year the US Department of Commerce and Nigeria’s Ministry of Industry, trade and investment signed a Commercial and Investment Partnership agreement- a five –year memorandum of understanding that focuses on agriculture, the digital economy, and infrastructure. Nigeria is one of the only five African nations with such an agreement, underscoring the importance we place on our economic relationship.
“Currently, more than 100 large American companies operate in Nigeria, spanning manufacturing, energy consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, technology, These companies, along with many small and medium-sized enterprises, are driving ingenuity, innovation, and prosperity for both Americans and Nigerians. This is trade that transforms lives and creates opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic.
“Through your skits, you have shown us how American ideas, innovations, and products are woven into the fabric of daily life in Nigeria. Many entries explored how American technologies empower Nigerians creative, opening doors to new skills, knowledge, and global audiences.’’
According Mcmanis the winners highlighted the reliability of American products, demonstrating how American engineering supports businesses and communities across Nigeria. He said further that the stories not only illustrate the quality and impact of American-made goods and innovations, but also the strong connections that link our both nations- not just in trade, but in creativity, ambition, and the pursuit of opportunity.
“Commerce between the United States and Nigeria is about more than goods and services. It is about people-entrepreneurship, students, families, and communities – working together to build a brighter future. It is about the exchange of ideas that inspire innovation and fuel shared prosperity,” he said.
