Tragedy has occurred in Onitsha, Anambra State commercial hub, as a container crushed two persons on a tricycle on Owerri-Onitsha Road and injured four others.

The incident which occurred at about 8:20am yesterday, involved a Keke (tricycle) and the trailer.
LEADERSHIP Friday learnt from eyewitnesses that four adult males were involved in the crash.
They told LEADERSHIP Friday that the cause of the crash was a poorly maintained section of the road, which caused the trailer’s container to fall onto the tricycle.

The sector public education officer of the FRSC Anambra State Command, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the sad incident to LEADERSHIP Friday.

She said that upon receiving the distress call, the FRSC rescue team was dispatched to the scene, where they collaborated with the police to secure the area and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

She said the victims, who were trapped under the trailer, were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

She also said that the corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command, has expressed her sadness over the incident, stating, “The FRSC is deeply saddened by the loss of lives in this tragic crash.
